In application engineering, you are responsible for setting up hardware and software for internal-combustion engines, ensuring, for example, that specified performance and emission targets are met. Your duties include commissioning and optimizing electronic engine management systems, setting up software parameters in control units, testing prototypes as well as building and commissioning engine test stands. You liaise closely with related departments such as software and component development, with our plants and with our testing area. In addition, you maintain contact with our sales people – and with customers, for instance, during presentations.
Your analytical mind and your understanding of complex processes are great assets in application engineering. You hold a degree from a technical university, ideally specializing in internal-combustion engines. Knowledge of engine and combustion technology, exhaust aftertreatment, and electronic engine management is essential. In this area, you require analytical and mathematical skills and sound judgment as well as a college or university degree in a business or economics discipline. Depending on your specialist area, you also require knowledge of controlling systems and methods, plus expertise in financial accounting, cost and activity accounting, and in preparing analyses, reports and financial statements (German GAAP, local GAAP, IFRS). In purchasing, you are always on the lookout for the most reliable supplier, the highest quality, and the best price – in both national and international markets. This goes for raw materials, parts, components, and consumables for the manufacture of our products as well as for machinery, products, and services such as IT equipment and service level agreements. In manufacturing, you plan and optimize the manufacture of our products in one of our plants. Working in simultaneous engineering teams developing competitive new products, you are at all times focused on quality, costs, and customers. You develop new processes with related departments such as product and process development and purchasing. As a planner, you design manufacturing processes in accordance with quality management guidelines and, together with logistics, develop the optimum manufacturing sequence for our products.
